    Hey Guys

Let me tell you the specs of my computer first.

    Motherboard: Intel D915GAV/D915PGN
    CPU : Intel P4 3.0Ghz
    RAM: DDR 2GB (512x4)
    HDD : 1. Seagate SATA 72000 RPM 250GB(Primary)
    2. Seagate SATA 72000 RPM 320GB
    ROM: LG Multi writer.
    Nvidia 6600 256mb card
    XP Sp2 Professional.
    Power: 450watts power supply.

I have a big fan on the CPU and three extra fans in the cabinet.

Now the problem. It started three weeks back my computer would just reboot automatically once in 2 days but then one day it just died it would just keep rebooting. It was not even able to reach the BIOS screen. So check my RAM checked all the connections and everything and just for checking i removed my LG ROM from it and it was able to restart.

but then after 2 days it went down again and it wont come up and after several tries it gave me the CPU heat sink error that it was over heating and should be serviced. So removed the fan and applied some more CPU paste between the fan and the CPU.

But now it gives me a blue screen error after Windows boot up screen and would restart. it doesn't even hold on that screen so i can read the error and also I thought I would just reinstall windows but it wont boot up and keep restarting if I put a CD in my ROM.

Now i am able to boot with both my HDDs but as soon as I attach a ROM with it would keep rebooting and i even tried changing the ROM but it worked once but then after that it didn't work. and it gave me the CPU error again.

So I am not sure if its a RAM problem, motherboard issue or power supply issue. because it can get overheated as i was running it open box.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thanx in advance.

To Check RAM errors run Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
When u put WinCD in DVD drive, make sure that it is selected as first boot device...
So u mean that ur computer is working fine as the moment.....nd the problem is only ur DVD drive??

Lets try with this solution first.....Using Barebones method
Take out your Mobo from the Case...Leave it with jst..
    CPU
    1xRAM
    1xVideo Card(if u dnt have onboard)
    1xHDD

Use flat face screw driver to turn it on and see if it works!
If you dont want to take that much hasstle in first place then try it inside the case first! There u dnt have to use screw driver..Power button will do that job !

i tried that(inside the box) and it boots up fine but but as my OS is corrupted it wont start windows. my computer boots up even if i have both my drives connected but it does frequent reboots only if i connect a ROM drive.

    Hi,

In my opinion you have now, not one problem, but two of them. Obviously the CD-ROM is creating the original problem. You said you tried with another DVD-RW and it didn't work...but, what does that means?...the system rebooted again?...or you just got the blue screen??

The second problem is in the OS and is a consequence of the first. Too many reboots ended screwing up your OS.

Try first fixing the issue with the DVD-RW and once you have it working...then start repairing your OS.

You can try several things, as I can see you have your DVD in a separate IDE channel, as first attempt try to disconnect all your HDDs and leave your DVD-RW connected...turn it on for a while and see what happen(this will isolate any PSU failure). You can connect your DVD as slave in the same channel as your main HDD(isolate bad IDE channel)...and some other combinations.

1st make sure that your hitsink fan is properly attached. If its ok then check the ram it might be going to damage....

The mobo you have has a commonly known problem with the bus chip cooler next to the CPU. Try feeling the aluminum heat sink to see how hot it is. My cure has always been to add a fan on top of the heatsink, since it is permanently affixed to the board on most of these models, so adding paste is not doable. Harbor Freight has a line of sight temp gauge which will tell you how hot it is. A lot of those intel boards cook at about 150 degrees when problems occur. Unfortunately if this has been happening for awhile the chip will have a fine crack down the middle. This allows the heat sink compound to seep into the chip and thats the end. Some boards which still boot may not be cracked, but simply overheat due to cheap paste on the heatsink, and a fan remedies that problem pretty well.
The first sign of a problem is usually Video, followed by slow to no boot. Remember, many techs mistakenly diagnose this as a CPU cooler problem which it almost never is. I have about 10 of these boards in my mobo graveyard which dont do anything yours does, and have fixed 3 recently with exactly your same symptoms. Fan always does the trick.

    Good Luck!
