I'm trying to fire up a used motherboard outside of a case on a bench. I connected the power supply plugs to the board and CPU sockets, then I flipped on the power supply, but nothing happened. I realized that if it were properly installed in a case, the power switch would get turned on, so I found the appropriate pins and jumpered them. Still, nothing happens. What am I missing? The board is a PCCHIPS p23g V1 that was recently pulled from my daughter's computer.

    Welcome to HWF :)

Please make sure that the cables from the case are correctly connected to the motherboard. Especially the on/off switch. You can find that in the manual of the motherboard.

Thanks for the reply, but please reread my first post. I'm trying to get the motherboard to run outside of a case on a bench. The power supply has been salvaged from another system.

I'm just trying to test the thing before I transfer it to the case my current computer's in. On and off will be there, of course.

My first guess is, you're jumping the wrong pins.
Try using a standard jumper instead of a screwdriver since the tool may slip and short on the wrong pins.
It's quite easy to mis-identify many groups of pins in a cluster as the user pins, so a users manual should be your first step, followed by a magnifying glass.
Here is a link to your manual (PCCHIPS Web Site)
You may have to copy and paste that since im not sure if this forum permits direct links.
Refer to page 12 for the proper on/off jumper pins. According to what I read
    pin 6 POWER_SW_P(+)
    pin 8 POWER_SW_N(-)
Is the proper jumper/power switch combo.
