Until this morning, my computer worked just fine. Then I heard a small bumping sound out of my computer box, windows worked for a few seconds more then restarted and i got this message.

'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key_'

I read over the internet that I should go to the Bios menu and detect the boot drive. Went there, but the only thing I can detect is my floppy and CD/DVD drives. I have 2 SATA harddrives, one of them has windows on. Don't know what to do to make my computer work again, let alone detect the hard disks.

I really need help here. It's the first time this happens to me.

    welcome to HWF :)

First of all, remove the cover of your computer. Are your hard drives still connected properly? That bumping sound could either be caused by the hard drive fallen out of the drive bay or it's broken.

    Thanks. :)

uncovered the computer and check. Everythng seems to be connected properly and nothing smells funny, or burned. Also, I found the Boot system (XP SP-2) CD and it seems to be asking for system recovery. But I need a system recovery floppy disk.
I have a second computer with the same OS installed on it and I'd like to ask if I can make a SR floppy from this computer? Or C: data matters as well?

ETA: So far, I got to the setup menu, windows tried to load, ut system won't detect ANY of my hard drives. I got a few answers, but being a n00b, I still don't know what to do to get to make those edits.

    Hi
you check for a hardware failure nad try to sort it out first..and if you have lost your all data then you must use windows recovery software for rescuing all lost data..

    hope the information is helpful.
