Microsoft is now warning of a swath of new, next-generation spyware which is already upon us. The end result is a modified Windows kernel laden with pure evil. These "rootkits" actually intercept system calls to the kernel, making them invisible to detection tools. According to Microsoft, the only way to be rid of it for sure is to reformat the hard drive. Those interested can get the full story here, and the parent article here.
