Power Supplies and You, or Why You Don't Want a Cheap PSU

yea, i thought it was a quality one, but now i regret buying it, well my dad bought it, and he wont by another one, he just wont accept that its a bad quality psu, i am wondering if its that causing very high cpu temperatures and computer shutting down, could that psu lead to my cpu getting too hot??

    Bad PSU

Maybe, but it sounds more like the CPU cooler is to blame. Wether the fan is going out or the thermal pad or paste needs to be replaced, or even if the cooler is improperly mounted, I can't say, but that's what I'd check. Additionally, having a cluttered rig and dust bunnies can do a number or the temps.

i have unclutterd my rig, i have replaced thermal paste, i have stock intel heatsink with another fan on top wich seems to lower the temp by at the highest 10 degrees, but its at 77 degrees when it shuts down, and other people with powerfuller pentium 4 processors than me and stock heatsink dont seem to have bad temperatures like me.

i spent about 2 hours trying to unclutter my rig, in the case galler there is a thread called my messy case :p, its got pics of both of my rigs in and one is a pic of it de clutterd.

i dont have any dust bunies but i have a real bunny called bugsy :p

ok well today i was just tidying wires up in my case whilst computers on, and i accidently pulled a plug connecting a light in my case to the psu, and guess what, the computer shut down, now should it normally shut down if somthing gets puled out, i hope the answer is no, once i remember pulling out cd rom when computer was still on and it never shut down, but now it does, as i accidently pulled dvd-rw out once, so does it sound like the psu is causing these shutdown problems in my computer????

Yeah, if you do that, the system may not like it. If you unplug the PSU from the wall and the motherboard temporarily, you should be able to reconnect everything and be good to go.

i just dont know whats going on with my ocmputer, and ot be honist it is doing my head in as my old computer never turns off on stuff, i have bieng trying for nearly 1 year to solve this problem, and it has not bieng solved, i need a new power supply, (a hyper one) for about £60, and then new cooler (£40) and the new graphics card, (£210), so i cant see this bieng sorted soon unless you can help me correct it :\.

and were it shows 18a on my 500w psu, on this hiper 580w psu it is 32/36a

oh no, i have now replaced everyhting, graphics card/psu/cpu/ram/cd/dvdr and i still have this shutting down, what could it be?
could the motherboard be fault, becouse the shut down temperature is 95 degrees and the cpu has never got to that temperature.

Is the Pc shutting down by just switching off straight away? or is it shutting down normaly?, if its just switching off then it maybe your power cord, i had the same problem it casues a small electrical surge that shuts the pc down, either make sure its firmly in place or get a new one, dose it make a buzz sound at all?

willhub, You really shouldn't be in your computer while its on, plugged in, or if anythings, attached to it! Example:monitor. This can cause a short, or fry something! to work on your comp i suggest unplugging everything including any addition items, grounding yourself and then go ahead.

What case do you have? I think it is possible that your case may be grounding out your MB (mother board)! Try taking the MB out and placing it on a phone book. have only cpu, cpu fan, memory, power, and video card hooked up to it! then hook up monitor and check it out! Hope it helps.

no, i dont think it is that becouse the temperatures dont look right in speed fan, look, that looks like faulty motherboard dont it?

and now were it says 128 degrees its now saying -47 degrees

and i havent moved from a desert to the arctic chircle.
