    Hi,

two weeks ago I bought the smc 7004abr barricade 4port 10/100 broadband router. I connected to pc's, the internet connections works well on both of them.

But I have a problem, I can't ftp to my website. I allways get an error (550 with leech ftp and cute_ftp and 505 with dreamweaver mx : permission denied). I looked on the internet for possible solutions but can't seem to have it working. I read the review on this site and tried some things like : DMZ Demilitarised Zone (no firewall blocking),

I use the passive transfer, nope

    My system
    OS : win2000
    ie: 6

I had norton antivirus 2003 installed but uninstalled it because I thought this was the problem.

Another problem : I can play online games like fifa 2003, but I can't host a game. ( I guess these two problems rely on each other.

Do I need to download the latest firmware for this product? If I have to, where do I have to install it into?

Please, somebody? It keeps me busy for a couple of days now....

I know we didn't review this hardware, but what it looks like is that you'll need to open specific ports. SMC's website is pretty good. I couldn't find the exact issue you had in the knowledgebase or FAQ, but I'm guessing just by doing some quick reading that it's likely a lack of a specific port being opened. How it's configured, I can't say, never having worked with that hardware.

Yeah most likely you'll have to go in and open up the individual ports despite being in the DMZ. I can't remember whether it was my Netgear or D-Link wireless setup that I had to open ports to be able to use VPN despite being in the DMZ.

The other thing I can see is if your ftp is set to only allow certain IP's and you have DHCP on which is giving you a new IP not in set in the ftp settings.

    Thank you both for replying

I'm a newbie in these things, but I'm learning.

I went to the site of the developper of the game and it states:
open port TCP 2048 and UDP 2048 . How do I do that.

For ftp I should open port 20 and 21 . Is this correct?
Can you please answer for a dummie.

To change port access goto the "Virtual Server" section of the web based setup, and add the port you want to access to the public & private port sections and add the ip address your system is currently using.

If your not sure of your IP address you can goto the start menu > run > cmd > and then type ipconfig /all
