Hello, when i try to do a clean install of windows xp on my machine when it gets to "copying files to the installation folder" after the format of the hard drive i get this Blue Screen of Death:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntfs.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF000ED8E, 0x00000001, 0xF7D0E666, 0x00000000)

    *** ntfs.sys - Address F7D0E666 base at F7CEE000, DateStamp 42797de8

I keep getting this blue screen during windows xp setup and i've tested my RAM with memtest86 which gave 0 errors! What else could be wrong to cause this? How do i fix it? How do i disable caching or shadowing? I've tried looking in the BIOS settings but can't seem to find it anywhere! I've also updated the BIOS but it doesn't help.

Go to BIOS and disable all the devices which are not required for eg.. sound, LAN card, modem etc..... and see if it goes ...

Whoops, sorry, I misread your post. In that case, first make sure that you are completely formatting the HDD when you install Windows and not installing on an existing filesystem. Next make sure the jumpers are set correctly on your HDD and that your HDD's ribbon cable is in good shape (no sharp kinks!). Also try using a different video card during the installation process and, if that fails also, try disabling the CPU's L2 cache.

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

This error is taking my mind towards the memory error. It could be any memory... like Video, RAM, Catche....So as AT suggested in one of his previous post. Look into the bios of your computer to check if you can disable your catche. Also check your Video and RAM....

thats the biggest problem im facing :( i cnt find where to disable the cache! its just not there..i;ve emailed the manufacturer and no response so far but my motherboard model is ASRock K7VM4 and theres a manual available here:

    http://www.asrock.com/manual/K7VM4.pdf

if someone could look through there and possible help me find it? i've tried i cnt find it anywhere!

Also i've tested the ram with 7 different memory tests which all gave a positive result, i've tested the hard drive twice with powermax and it passed all tests, and i've tried a different video adapter, the current one is onboard and i added an AGP graphics card and i got this blue screen, im completely stuck!

FORGOT TO ADD: i also tried a different hard drive and it gave a different blue screen! and also instead of a blue screen with my current hard drive it just freezes instead during windows setup..

yeah, UBCD will do the job, or kubuntu Live CD also includes memtest

Edit: boot from a live CD, your system will not be affected at all, just boot from CD & you'll see (kubuntu has a boot menu option for memtest)
