Hello, I recently purchased an Asus K8SMX Motherboard, along with a Socket 754 AMD Sempron 2600+ Retail Box. I installed the motherboard, and the CPU like normal, attached all the wires, the PSU, the ram etc and I ran it bare bone at 1st to see if it works. I pressed the power button, it "turned on" but didnt "boot successfully", i.e the monitor kept saying "No Signal" and no beeps are heard. The CPU fan is running while the PC is on and the Green Light on all ASUS motherboards which shows the PC is on is also running. Since then I've done the following: 1) Tried it several times by removing the power cable and trying a different one and generally turning it off and turning it back on, (Also note that i can't use the power button to turn the pc off i have to switch it off directly from the PSU). 2) Tried a working 512MB Corsair DDR400 ram chip from another PC. 3) Tried a different known working 450W PSU. 4) Because the original VGA card was onboard I also tried a known working AGP graphics card. 5) Tried clearing CMOS by the jumper settings and removing the battery several times. 6) Tried running barebone i.e just CPU, RAM, PSU, Motherboard, and only Power Switch Wire attached. 7) Moved the motherboard from outside of the case and running it outside of the box. 8) Tried both ram slots. 9) Tried different combo's of known working hardware (i.e AGP graphics card with Corsair RAM, onboard graphics card with Corsair RAM in both slots, the original RAM with the PC with both graphics cards, another old ram chip with both graphics cards.) 10) Tried a different monitor which didn't work either, (on one monitor i get just the orange light, on another i get no signal..) None of these options worked! What else is there to try? Both the motherboard and CPU are brand new. hmm... Possibly DOA harware (motherboard by looks of it) ? Does the motherboard have error lights on it? mine has little LD's that go on when there is a video/ram/CPU error... Those might help... Ive had a problem or two myself with DOA hardware.
k. Im checking into it now... Asus website. I EXTREMELY doubt this, but you didn't forget to plug into the 4 pin power connector?
k. Can't find mutch that can be done, but try to manually take out the motherboard's BIOS battery. Looks like its on the very bottom right of the board. Leave it out for a while, (30secs) then put it back in. This might work; ive worked with a few BIOS's that didnt reset all their data by just triping the BIOS reset jumper. Had to pull out and and put back the battery... hope this works
sux. Ive got no idea as to what can (reasonably) be done now. Looks like DoA to me. Hopefully you can return it. Sorry
Did you disable the onboard at that time?? If this doesnt work then it means that mobo is DOA...... That orange light means the same thing....No Signal.... I think it only means that Mobo is getting power supply but doesnt means that all the circuits are working properly...
I quickly scanned the things listed that you have tried. This problem is very very common to Asus motherboards, It's happened to me twice in 6 months. I don't think you have tried taking the RAM out (so all RAM slots are empty), and try powering up.. this should give you a beep code, namely: 1 Looooong, 2 Short. That beep code resembles a video card error, but for Asus boards it can also mean motherboard fault. My first board (Asus A8N-SLi Premium) was DoA like yours (exactly the same symptons). I have been waiting nearly 7 weeks now for my own PC's asus mobo to come back .. Good luck!
Problem fixed! I just took the CPU out and resat it and put the heatsink back on and it booted perfectly!:chk: :chk:
