The cheapest X2 you can get is at $300 right now probably, which is the 3800+. A cheap, but pretty good motherboard can go from $75-100. I advice...

Any 7800 is probably your best bet right now, later down like 3 years from now(or more) you should get a DX10 card as most games will demand it

you should probably get the ATX12V, and also since its an X2 make sure it has Dual 12v rails since dual cores tend to use lots of the 12v instead...
yea the AMD is probably the better choice. Instead of Socket 939 though you might wanna get a Socket AM2 as its newer and uses DDR2, faster memory...
i say AM2 cuz later down the line you'll need faster ram and it'll be easier to find DDR2, than regular DDR for 939 sockets. It's all up to you though
