Sorry for this dumbass question, but...

With Firewire, is the 6-pin conn. 'female', and the 4-pin conn. 'male'?.

Reason I ask is becuase I want to network two Firewire cards together, so I'll need a double ended 'Male' cable to enable this.

You'll have to excuse the some what crude reference, but the 'male' and 'female' thing can be compared to how things go in sex.

So, the firewire card would be 'female' and the firewire cable, whether it be the 6-pin or 4-pin connector, and the cable would be male on both ends regardless of the connector.

So 4-pin and 6-pin isn't a gender thing as such then, it's actually different cables.

    Thank you. :)

Different connectors for the same thing. I know the most common one is a 4-pin to 6-pin adapter. I haven't seen any 4-pin to 4-pin, nor 6-pin to 6-pin, but the latter I believe is available.
