Hi there Anyway, pretty much what it says on the tin. I have all the peripherals already so I'm just interested in the computer itself, although I need an OS. I have quite a bit of money left over, so I'd like some advice on what components I could or should spend more money on. Also, feel free to post general comments and in particular if you see something which strikes you as too low/high quality or something which is incompatible with the rest of the system. I have done my best to make sure everything fits together but I'm not expert :O Here is what I have so far: Case Coolermaster Centurion 5 Silver £43 PSU Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU - With 3x 12v Rails and 120mm Fan Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU - With 3x 12v Rails and 120mm Fan £80 Motherboard ASUS P5B Socket 775 Core 2 ready P965 chipset onboard audio ATX ASUS P5B Socket 775 Core 2 ready P965 chipset onboard audio ATX £66 Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 4MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 4MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor £132 Optical Drive 1 Samsung Black DVD RW Samsung SH-S183 SATA 18x DVD±RW/RAM Black - Bare drive OEM £20 Optical Drive 2 Samsung Black DVD RW Samsung SH-S183 SATA 18x DVD±RW/RAM Black - Bare drive OEM £20 Hard Drive 1 Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATAII/300 8.5ms 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Seagate 320GB Hard Drive - Cheap at Ebuyer! £49 Hard Drive 2 Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATAII/300 8.5ms 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Seagate 320GB Hard Drive - Cheap at Ebuyer! £49 Sound Card Creative X-fi Music Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music OEM Soundcard £50 Video Card BFG GeForce 8800GTS 320mb BFG 8800 GTS OC 320MB DDR3 DVI PCI-E Graphics Card ~£185 RAM OCZ 2GB DDR2 6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC OCZ 2GB DDR2 Memory - Cheap at Ebuyer! ~£80 OS Windows XP Home s/ SP2 Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2B x32bit OEM 1PK CD £52 Total: £819.00
Looks good. One thing you should be aware of is that the Antec TrioPower doesn't actually have 3 separate +12V rails. Around the same price, OCZ GameXStream 600W has 4x 15A +12V rails versus the supposed 3x 19A +12V on the Antec, giving them both about the same effective grunt there.
that and be aware, that the GTS, which is a nice unit, and will run DX10, won't really perform well at all under actual gaming conditions.
