Hello, my system is as follows:
    Mobo: Gigabyte ga p41t-d3
    PSU: Thermaltake Tough Power 650W
    GPU: GeForce GT520

I got an old 4870 Palit from a friend of mine. It needs 2 6-pin for PCIe to get enough power, but my PSU only gives me 1. I got an adapter cable that takes 2 4-pins and converts them to 1 6-pin. So I use both 6-pins on the card, but the system never shows anything on the monitor, and never boots (I left it on some time to see if the windows sound would be heard). The 4870 definitely works, I checked it on another system. The system boots fine with the old card.

The most probable solution is that the adapter cable is faulty, or just doesn't provide enough power I guess. The system would be able to handle the card otherwise. Is it possible the mobo needs a BIOS update? What other causes can you guys think of?

    Thanks guys

The system doesn't even boot, drivers are irrelevant at this stage I think.
