I've installed a new Maxtor STM3320820AS for use as a secondary drive and have been waiting for it for a week.

Now that it's arrived and I've installed it Windows keeps telling me that the hard drive says it may fail. Why could this be and how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help and if you need anymore details just ask.

    Welcome to HWF :)

You could try to fix it on this way:

Go to Command Prompt, and enter the following command:
    chkdsk X: /f
where X: is the letter of the drive. You might see a message about rebooting, so select Yes (Y). Now reboot and the system checks and repairs any errors it may find.

and if that doesnt help, it looks like you need to get a replacement as it might have been damaged during transit.

Cheers for the help and welcome guys. I ran chkdsk. What do I have to do now? Sit and wait to see if the message comes up again?

Is there any chance this could be a wiring or power problem?

No, if that would be the case you would get problems with booting and the system would crash all the time.
