Help on COM port problem with old PC

Discussion in 'General Hardware' started by andrea_deleon, Sep 11, 2003.

  1. I have an old PC, a Jetway 993BS motherboard with Celeron 533Mhz. I've been using it for more than 1 year for my school works. Lately, I tried to use it to connect to the internet. But I am having problem with my modem installation. Both the serial ports COM1 and COM2 are not working - modem does not respond to Windows modem detection.

Can anyone advice on how I can make it work? Is there a jumper in the motherboard that was missed that disabled both COM1 and COM2?

Please help. I've been trying to fix it for a week now, removing other components on the board yet nothing good happened. I don't have the manual of the motherboard and I'm not capable of buying new PC.

    Thanks.

There could be a jumper, but there could also be a BIOS setting to enable/disable the com ports. I don't know the motherboard, so I can't really say.
