Hi, i'm looking to upgrade my processor, but unfortunatly i do not know the maximum speed of CPU that my motherboard can support.
I've gone and thrown away all the documentation that came with my motherboard, so I was wondering if there is any kind of program on the net that I can download and install to find it out for me.
    Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This might help, though not sure, it should tell you what motherboard you have, from that find that motherboard on the manufacturers site, which should tell you the max speed the MB supports! http://www.voodoofiles.com/177

I used the program you advised me to used and it came up with this as my motherboard:

    V.830CH/830CF SiS-730-6A6ISJ19C-00 (Socket A)

No manufacturer though. I ran it through a few search engines, but no result. Any of you guys have any idea?

    Thanks again.

I tried searching and found that the SiS730 can support up to 133MHz FSB. Does that mean that is the maximum speed for my motherboard? Can I put in a Socket A CPU that does not go above 133Mhz FSB regardless of it's clock speed? Please clear these things up for me.

    Thanks.

I found a list of all the boards with an SiS730 chipset.

tell us more about your board: number of pci slots, does it have a amr/cnr slot, onboard sound/video, etc.

EDIT: the color of the board would also be usefull

Ok, here's what i could find out:
    3 PCI slots
    4 ISA slots
    1 AGP slot
    On board sound
    No onboard graphics

And as you wanted to know, the colour of it is green.

And guess what - I found a driver disk! Horay!
No brand on it though, it just says 'motherboard - The brand you can trust'
The installation program is by 'Magic Install'

BTW, I put the CD in my drive - No info unfortunatly.
But there was however, a readme file, all text which is there is below:

Maybe some of you guys could make some sense of that.

Some more good news is that on the CD, there is a serial number.

    S/No: 020717B1

I guess you were all itching to know that, sorry I didn't realise it sooner.

Nothing else I can find is on the driver CD, but if this forum supports attachments, i'll scan the front of the CD if you want.

    Thanks again guys.

    http://www.sis.com/wheretobuy/730cus.htm

See if that link helps any. It lists all the motherboard companies that have purchased the 730 chipset from SiS.

I'd suggest looking at PC Chips, Matsonic, Jetway and PCChips first. These are the lowest bidders on motherboards, and are more likely not to explicitly state it on their products.

Those manufacturers you just mentioned rang a bell!
    I remember the manufacturer now!

    It's Jetway!

I looked on the list and on the website you advised and I went on the Jetway website, but no result, not even a SiS730 motherboard either.

Anyway, at least I still got the manufacturer, this jigsaw is finally starting to come together.

Please keep the help coming, I am really greatful for what you guys are doing.

    Thanks guys!

Some things are not clear. The only Jetway board with the SiS730 chipset is the Jetway 830CN. It has 3 pci slots, but no ISA slots nor does it have an agp slot, like you mentionned.
So either you do not have these slots, or your board isn't a Jetway, or it's not the Sis730 chipset. Also, the board isn't green.
In any case, the info you provided is contradicting.
I will give you the info regarding the 830cn, but considering the info you gave us, this isn't your board.

The 830cn supports processors up to Athlon 1.4ghz w/ FSB 100mhz, NOT 133mhz
Same for the 830cn rev 1.0
The 830cn rev 2.0 supports up to Athlon XP Palomino 2100+, NOT thoroughbred
The 830cn rev 3.0 supports up to Athlon XP Thoroughbred 2400+

Note that none of these boards support DLT3C processors (operating at 1.5V)

http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/cpu_support.htm <--- Link to cpu support, scroll down to your board.

The rev number is written somewhere on the board, usually between the pci slots.

Please verify the info provided so we can help you better.

OK, thanks anyway, i appreciate your help, but I just think I need to do some more research along the lines of what you have given me.

Maybe I could contact Jetway or something.

Thanks for all your help, your hard work has been greaty appreciated.

    Farewell for now!

Hello, I have the same board as djscott77 , with an Amd duron 1300. I was also looking to see what is the maximum Amd cpu I can use as an upgrade. sis 730 6a6isj19c-00, v830ch/830cf ,A09 07-24-2002 Award , super i/o: winbond 697hf rev 2. I have checked the Jetway website, but could not find exact specs. Any help is appreciated.

By some strange quirk of fate, I have a board in front of me with the same BIOS / Board identifier as the 2 people above. (not mine, a friend who asked me to look at it)
However, as well as the 830 CN, Jetway made an 830 CF, in 3 revisions, 1.0,2.0 & 3.0.
The board I have is a 830 CF Rev 2.0 (this is stamped quite clearly on the board near the 2 DIMM slots.!!)
It still doesn't have any ISA slots but it does have on board LAN and VGA but also an AGP slot.
It also does have a 100 or 133 MHz FSB set by a jumper S1 which is behind the DIMM slots nearer to the edge of the board. (100 when open - [default] 133 when closed)
The Maximum CPU speed can be found on the Jetway website as indicated by harrack52 earlier, but you need to find the board Revision and a BOM number which is on a yellow label on top of the I/O ports on the board.
Also on the site are BIOS downloads to version A10. (I see yours is A09 shawncy!!)

Finally, and I hope some of this is useful for you, I have managed to download a full 56 page manual from Jetway which covers the 830 CN / 830 CH & 830 CF motherboards all of which use the SIS 730 chipset.
This link should get you in the right vicinity to find what you need
    http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/index.html

but be aware, in the manuals section there is just one download site, Asia.
Didn't seem to work, but the Bios download and Drivers did from Asia2, so I ftp'd directly to the ip address in Asia 2 and changed to the manual directory and found the same file. I guess someone must have moved the data at some point but not updated the link.

In summary there are numerous possibilities as to what the maximum processor possible and you need to find the board, ie. is it 830 CN, CH or CF, the Revison number, ie. none 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 and the BOM number. Only then can you find the max CPU.
This one I have is a 830 CF, Rev 2.0 with a BOM no. of 04 making it 1.4G Duron and 1.4G Athlon 100 or 133 Mhz FSB.
Most Rev 3.0 boards seem to go up to 2400+ Athlon XP's.

Sorry for the war & peace, I'll make it brief next time.
Hope something is of some use.

PS First time user here and just found whilst editing my typo's that you can upload attachments so I have uploaded the pdf Manual.

Thanks for the info,it happens to be the 830ch rev 02. I'm a bit of a novice at this so I was wondering ,on the jetway page it says bom x 11. what does the x stand for and where the 11 is the bom ,mine is a 02. Would I still be able to use the Athlon 1.4 and can I go as fast at the xp 2100+? Thanks for your patience.

    That's a good question.??
Don't take this for granted (and hopefully someone else will have a view!!) but I guessed it means that the "X" column covers all BOM numbers up to but not including whatever is in the next column. If this were the case then I think your board would only go up to the Athlon 1.4 & not the 2100+ xp.
If you look at all the other boards & revisions there are only the Rev. 2.0 ones that actually show 2 columns in the bom table, this would support the latest version releases of Rev. 2.0 boards being able to support higher CPU's.

Don't know what BOM stands for though.!! Anyone..???

Now the big question... is the Athlon 1.4 worth the money to upgrade from the Duron 1.3??? Is it that much faster?
