Anything Micro$oft can do to make money, they'll have a shot at, or even to just extend their influence/annoyance factor.

Theres no point. It'll become a genericised brand.

Then everyone will just start making 'third party' smilies that become 'incompatible with Micro$oft products' :p

    Patent system = broken.

That's all there is to it. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are literally patented twice under US patent law. Microsoft is simply taking advantage of the situation to try and bolster their stock. Notice how they've never patented anything original, they're simply hoarding commonly known & used concepts. Same old story. If MS ever came up with an original idea, I'd probably become instantly incontinent.

    P.S. - :x: :( :O :D ;) :p ...so sue me.

Who thought a change was in store? If anything, I figured that they might try to find new, innovative ways to screw over devoted, often ignorant, customers (unlike myself).

Haha, that's about the only thing new and innovative about Microsoft!

Please don't laugh. I bought a copy of XP Home for £90 about 2 years ago. I was young and ignorant, take it easy.
