My new system AMD64 Hi, Here's my new (will be) system configuration: 1. ASUS A8N-E Motherboard 2. MSI RX800XL-VT2D256E Radeon X800XL 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card 3. AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor 4. Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply 5. Rosewill 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System 6. Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA NCQ ST3160827AS 160GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive 7. PLEXTOR Beige SATA DVD Burner Model PX-712SA 8. ARCTIC COOLING FREEZER64 ACFZ64 80mm Ceramic Cooling Fan Anyone that have an opinion, strenght or cons for that configuration. I'm trying to make the best choices with a budget of $1000 to $ 1200 newegg Thanks in advance
I could't suggest anything new to add or change! the setup seems pretty good from the looks of it :good:
I'm not so sure about the quality of that Roswill memory. I'd look at some Patriot/PDP PC3200+XBL stuff for some decent RAM on the cheap. If you're intrested in SLI'ing that rig later on, I'd suggest checking out the short list of nVidia certified PSU's over @ SLI Central.
Looks great dude! I personally use the Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra cpu cooler/heatsink combo, low temps, noise, and price. I'm sure the Rosewill ram won't let you down, I wouldn't think, but just make sure the latency is up to snuff, nothing higher than 2.5-3-3-7 and you should be alright, if you can afford it obviously go with name brand ram with 2-2-2-5 timings but that'll cost you. Looks like you've got it all, unless you want extra unnecessary little things like vga coolers, hard-drive coolers, ATA controller, or a network card.
Well i don't know if the sound is integrated but if so thats fine, and I'm assuming he already has keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor, since he didn't mention them but maybe not.
OK. I was only worried about the inside , I already have case, keyboard, mouse and monitor. These MOBO's have 8 channel integrated audio. I have change my mind about memory. I rather spend a few more dollars and buy a Kingston HyperX 1GB (2 x 512MB) and eliminate the 3rd party cooling device cause, i am not planning to overclock and by the weight of the cooler i can damage the cpu. My latest configuration goes like this: Zipzoomfly 1. ASUS A8N-E Motherboard $ 120 Newegg 2. MSI RX800XL-VT2D256E Radeon X800XL 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail $298.00 3. Also, that video card isn't the best bang for your buck. The 6600GT is a much better choice for your money.
also check them, because last time only eVGA cards from the 6 line have been upgraded to OpenGl 2.0, or otherwise you'll be treated with 1.5, and all the cards cost around the same price, so take the freebie while you can i dont realy think an amazing sound card is that neccasary i got a 2ZS because I plan to record on the beautiful Reason 3.5
Also a good card. Its a pretty even stepping as performance goes compared to the 6600GT, so if you can spend more than go for it.
two 6600GTs have a minimal performance gain over a single 6800GT so it should be the most efficient way to go
Personally I'd say stick with the X800XL, it's easily faster than the 6600GT, don't spend less just to get less. The XL is better in practically every way, the 6600GT is a great card, and everyone's right, it's concidered to be the best bang for the buck card. But I feel it's worth the extra $100 to get yourself 8 extra pipelines, twice the vram, and double the memory controller size by buying the XL. It's a win win situation unless you don't want to spend the extra $100 any more. Just my opinion anyway.
Also, don't necessarily go with the 6800GT, it's on even playing ground with the XL really so save the cash:good:
Quite true, SLI'd 6600GTs don't seem to take that 90% inrease in performance as expected, and you can always SLI another card with the 6800 when you need it. Unless of course you want to get an X800XL and use Crossfire when the Crossfire card comes out.
