Being thick here, a friend of the family has a basic computer with Windows XP Pro installed..

The problem is that you cannot view web pages..

The net is working.. i can ping / traceroute to hardwareforums.com / bbc.co.uk / msn.com e.t.c all fine, with very good timings, however any attempt to use internet access via port 80 (Http) or port 21 (FTP) or even port 22 (SSH) will not allow access.. its as if the internet isnt working.

I have reinstalled Internet Explorer, Installed FireFox

Reinstalled their Cable modem.. software and hardware, i've checked all the services running in the CP and they are to my eyes.. fine. Network settings for all internet connections or lan connections and in general are at default.. with NetBios turned off, and only TCP/IP Running.

I don't really want to reinstall Windows as it's such a slow computer, anyone got any ideas at all?
