So I got a new ASUS VS228H-P monitor, and sadly the DVI port does not work on it, so I used a DVI-I to VGA adapter to connect it to my ASUS R9 280X. However, my computer crashes to a random color screen, sometimes with lines down it, and I have to restart my computer. This happens under very minimal load or under no load at all. I just reinstalled Windows and it did not help

My old monitor was the same resolution, and I have tried plugging it in (still using DVI-I to VGA) and it runs flawlessly. Very strange issue, a monitor causing crashing?

It runs fine in safe mode or with integrated graphics instead of the video card. and that's the only way to get it to run on the new monitor for more than a minute. Any suggestions on how to fix?
