Something strange happened to my friend's PC (ABit IS-10 motherboard) and it died. I replaced the power supply and it was fine, allowing booting into XP etc. BUT there is no sound and in audio devices/control panel it says no audio device. I have tried installing audio drivers but still the same message. I have tried Adding new hardware to no avail. Does this mean the motherboard needs replacing?
each motherboard has a different BIOS, usually to enter the BIOS you press <Del> when your system POSTs (beeps) BTW: it may say "Press <Del> to enter BIOS setup" under the HDD detected however, you may need to press F1 or F2, on some laptops you press the function key (Fn) & F1 or F2 after you know which key to press, press it during HDD detection BTW: it doesn't matter if you press it once or hold it down, personally, i hold it down until the BIOS / CMOS page appears, then navigate with the cursor keys to something like "Integrated Peripherals" and press <Enter> & find something like "onboard sound" of AC / 97 and enable it & <Esc> then save & exit, sometimes <F10> saves and exits if i need any more help, just ask, We @ HWF are always willing to help, good luck Edit: your motherboard manual is here
OK gone into BIOS (Del) but found the audio hardware is Enabled! Still says No Audio Device in Control Panel and I also tried Add Hardware but didn't work!
the same problem like me , you must download UAA bus driver, it is an update from microsoft which the windows installation cd do not have , you must get it indiviual, if you want it clearer you must download one of these files : KB888111.exe (for laptops) KB835221.exe (for win xp) KB901105.exe (for 64bit windows) (be sure of other things like BIOS is correct for sound)
OK got the driver and allows you to select an audio device! Sound is up and running now! Thanks a bunch.
