Can anyone recommend a wireless PCI adaptor 54mbps for 40-60 dollars? I am a bit confused on what to buy that won't screw up my system or be completely worthless. I've looked at netgear and linksys but the negative feedback on them kinda worries me.

eh, I ended up buying the gigabyte one on newegg. hopefully it'll be decent, I don't plan on being more than 30 feet from the router through 2 walls. I kinda wondered if I should have gotten an atheros chipset but oh well.

The only time I really wanted an atheros chipset was while doing my dissertation, I found that Helix and other security distros of linux liked it.

I'd hope you'd be fine no matter what chipset if you are just planning on normal use.
