I think you've got the drivers already........ Just go to Device Manager (RightClick MyCOmputer > Manage > Device Manager)... Can you see your printer over there? (Is there any yellow traingle over there with "!" sign in it?)
I think that its fine....Just look under ports....! Switch on your printer and try to print something....
Try to install in Safe Mode............ To start in Safe Mode.... Press f8 when you start your computer....
dang man. I know from experience old cannon stuff is weird. I have this scanner that took me a year to track down a driver and install file and like another couple months to figure out how to install it. This might not be an option but you could just pick up a new printer for like $80 $90 dollars. Thats always an option as a new printer shouldn't have any difficulties being reconized under XP. Actually after saying that does your printer get roconized by XP. If you plug it in and then unplug it does a window pop up sayin USB device attached or does nothing happen. If thats the case it could be an issue with the device itself or just a bad cable
Hello Thanks for the reply and what happens. Is that notting comes up when i plug it in but when i go add hardwear i tells me the error that i started with.
well something should pop up regardless, even if it just says USB device, and should be an unreconized device. So i would try a different cable. if that doesn't work, try using a different driver and then after that, i would say there is an issue with the printer, or possibly with windows itself which i think was suggested. ok good luck get back with the results and we'll go from there
Tryed new cable no luck on that i know its not the printer becuase my friend was just useing it about a week ago so im planing to reformate. Thanks alout for the help
ok well after the formatting just get back and we'll see if that was it, windows is real finicky, its weird stuff so it could very well be the issue
um actually i don't think cloning would be a good idea, windows breaks down and what not plus it just gets generally messed up so i would just recommend backing up your important files and that sort of thing, and reformat and do a clean windows install. If you clone windows to then that kinda defeats the purpose
From device manager are you trying to load the .inf and .sys driver files for your printer or are you trying to install them via a setup program?
