    Hi All,

I use a software application which requires me to forward data from my router port 443 to my computer's IP address. The application contains a payment wizard so therefore uses HTTPS.

Why does this piece of software require special treatment.... when Internet Explorer communicates across my router without issue... eg, secure payments on amazon, my online bank etc?

    Thanks.

Does the software function without forwarding the port? It could be saying that it wants to be able to get out through your router on port 443. That is acceptible, since all outward traffic is allowed on home-grade routers. If that's the case you won't have to make any changes to your router. On the other hand, if it wants to accept inbound traffic on 443, basically what's going on is that your software wants to operate as an internet-accessible server. For client use, there's absolutely no good reason for this behaviour.
