Why won't my fan work even after replacement?

I installed a brand new fan and heatsink assembly into my HP Envy 15 laptop as the previous GPU fan had stopped working. When I booted, the computer gave me a CMOS BIOS error 502 then restarted but got into windows so I assumed everything was fine. Unfortunately the CPU fans are running, but the GPU fan still isn't. Is this a problem with the motherboard? Could I have done something wrong with installation? There was only one cable to connect (not counting re-installing the keyboard but that works fine) and it's not possible to have put it in backwards or anything. Can anyone help??

did you measure the voltage at the conection for the fan power supply pins? i guess this would be the easiest way to make sure its not the motherboard if there is not any voltage there then you have a motherboard problem. but since the fan is new and the instalation of a fan isn't all that hard i am guessing its the motherboard..
