So thought i would check this out :-
I have have taken out the cpu fan and removed the fan blades
nothing looked amiss. No electrical smell. Refitted the blades and
they definately clicked into place. Tried it again . Just the same.
It works in the sysfan header...

The cpu fan works if i plug it into a system fan header but not in the cpu fan header.
if i plug a system fan into the cpu fan header it works.
its not logical
i thought it was the cpu fan header - but it can't be if another fan works plugged in that header.

yes all the parts are NEW in the build except the PSU
and I have tried 2 different PSU's both taken out of working pc's
the bulid spec is :
MID TOWER CASE = Antec 300
Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
CPU = AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Socket AM3 3.2 GHz

Thing is i don't think its the psu that is the problem now.
i have tried another psu in the pc. It was taken out of a working pc

I have got an old pc and put it side by side with the new pc. I have connected the wires from the CD/DVD drive in the old pc to the CD/DVD combo drive in the new pc and the CD/DVD drive door opened perfectly. So I can conclude that the drive is fitted and working ok.
