Problem with WD Passport 0730 external hard

    i have a WD passport that belong to a dentist, he has files that they're very important to him
    the problem is that the wd will not show up in "My Computer"
    in win 7 the drivers will not install correctly
    but in win XP SP3 all the drivers will completely install but still it will not shows in "My Computer"

    i will explane that what happens in both windows 7 and XP SP3...:

    Win 7:

    as you see above it will not recognize on win 7
    even in device manager i can not update the driver...

    Win XP SP3:

    here the windows will recognize the device

    in device manager its not known but when i update the driver it will update correctly...! but still not shows in "My Computer"

    i had a way to solve this prob:
    - i disabled 1394 connection
    - restarted the computer
    - re installed the WD

    but it doesn't work again , even it will not show in computer "management > device management" as a unnamed device...

    I've had similar issues with my Passport. It would always work on my friends PC laptop and Mac but seldom on my desktop. I concluded that it was my usb ports that were messed up. I tried everything and i mean everything.

    Go to your motherboard manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for your chipset. It might help.
