Hi there, i have bought a new motherboard to replace my old Gigabyte one. ASUS A7V600-X. The problem i encounter is: on boot-up i get 2 separate short beeps, system boots up fine, but i never heard any computer make such warning beeps on boot-up. A looked up the manual - there is no definition for the system speaker beeps. (anyone got 'em?) Also sometimes when i'm running a couple of programs at the same time i get a Beep from the speaker as well. My system is: AMD Sempron 2500+ (1.75 GHz) 768 RAM (256+512) WinXP Please advise!
That's pretty weird man, most motherboards give off a single beet at startup and that's it. Since it boots it can't be a HD, power, or video problem anyway. You could try googling ASUS A7V600-X beep codes or click on this.
The closest I can come up with is that it's a memory error, but even then I'm not sure. Have the memory timings set to auto and see if you can up the voltage .1V. Not sure if that'll fix the problem, but try it and let us know.
Thanx for you replies! I appreciate your time. Memory timings are set to AUTO(default), and VCORE voltage (if thats what u mean) is set to 1.666V. I didnt mention earlier but, i when i installed the mother board - I would put Winamp on and my clock actually started to slow down by a millisecond or so, so in a couple of hours my clock would be at least 30 minutes late, as soon as i turn off winamp, the time backtracks and comes back to required state. Someone told me that that could be the battery on the mainboard, I thought it might have sumtin to do with my overall system, i had 1GHz CPU and 256 RAM at the time (for this mainboard minimum req. is 1GHz). So i upgraded it to its current state, the clock works fine now with no delays, could that have sumthing to do with the wierd beeps?I had them ever since i installed the mainboard. Would you guys think that it might be a faulty mainboard? I never used ASUS before, always on GIGABYTE - I only bought an ASUS one by a recommendation. If in the end i don't solve this, and my system burns for some reason (hope not), what motherboard would you recommend for me (on Socket A)? Once again thanx for helpin me thru this! :good:
The only reason I can come up with for your motherboard being bad is that those two beeps may signify that there's what's called a memory parity error, which may have occurred in the first 64K of RAM, in that case the RAM IC is probably bad and you'd have a problem. Other than a few random beeps your system seems pretty good. It doesn't crash on you in more intensive tasks or anything right? If you find you want/need a replacement you can always look under socket A, or, if you like GIGABYTE (I think they make great mobo's) try this.
Nope, it doesn't crash on intensive tasks, and overall seems like a healthy system, i do have another glitch , but thats software problems i posted it in: Windows 95/98/XP/NT -> Explorer.EXE Application Error. So I'll stick with it for now, if it decides to ruin my day - I'll just get different one (not ASUS) That's all! Thanx a lot for your help here mate! :good:
Vcore is for the CPU voltage. Look for something along the lines of VDDR or VDIMM. You may also want to run [google]Memtest[/google] to check the memory itself.
hmm.. I did the MemTest - and it kept going for hours thru the night , in the morning it reached 1300% ? I switched it off and my computer crashed, blank screen. As for the VDDR and VDIMM, i couldn't find anything even closely related, I got Award BIOS, crap to be honest - no details, and im not familiar with it. I sent an email to ASUS, I'll see what they got to say, I'll keep you guys informed - in case I'm not the only one with the problem.
Here is the reply I got from ASUS: WTM20050320914372602 Re: Motherboard A7V600-X 2005-03-20 09:23:14 Dear Sir / Madam In regards to your email, please check the following: For testing purposes only, boot the system up from each of your memory sticks one at a time to identify as whether one them is the cause of the problem. Flash your BIOS, please refer to the following link for BIOS updates. http://www.asus.it/support/download/download.aspx Ensure that you have your speakers connected and switched on when you power on the system. By doing this you will get a verbal POST report that will state if there is a problem and what component is the cause. Kind Regards David Dungan Asus UK Technical Support Dept PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE TEXT FROM PREVIOUS MAILS WHEN REPLYING AS WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOU WILL ALWAYS GET THE SAME PERSON RESPONDING ---------------------------------- I did it all - still the same problem, the only thing is the POST report thing, I get no verbal POST.
