Is this in CS:S only or have you had this problem in other games?

so far its just CS:S, i play other games like DOD and such but never had this happen, did u watch my uploaded video to see what goes on? i can upoad a bigger piece so that u can see more of what happens, cause during the freeze time i can look around, its just like time stoped but then i come back and i usually am shot by someone. but yea, it is just in CS:S as far as i know

Sounds like lag, does this occur on all servers or just a few?

    What are your rates..type

    cl_cmdrate
    cl_updaterate
    rate

into console to find out the values.

type net_graph 3 in the console and play, look at the loss and choke reading and report back

It is a remarkably glitchy game for some people - i've had problems of it restarting randomly but it is apparently fixed now

ok i think i got the right data,

    cl_cmdrate was 100
    cl_updaterate was 75

net_graph 3 brought up a couple on screen displays like fps, in, out, loss, choke
my fps was 30-70 (70 when not moving)
in was 229(when frozen) but vaired from 200-500
    out was a constant 63
loss was usually 0 but when it froze after it came back it would be 40
choke was 0 usually but around 6 after it froze

this time it froze after a couple minutes of gameplay
is this the right info, and yes it does freeze on every server

    Yup that's the right info.

As loss is the data you send to the server (I believe), it is more severe than choke and this is why you are stuttering. You temporarily stop receiving packets with the server and thus this occurs. 40 is quite a substantial amount of loss. You often get a little when lots is going on as the server is trying to send out a hell of a lot of packets and some are bound to get lost, but 40 is something to be concerned about.

What connection do you have, and are you on wireless?

Do you know what tick rate server you play on? Usually 33, 66, 75 or 100.

You are more likely to get high loss on 33 tick servers, so consider looking around for some higher tick if you aren't using them already.

And also, could you check the Console and see if any error messages appear next time this happens, such as:

    example
Receiving Net Fragment (Out of Order 1/5)

    Net Packet Loss

Unknown Packet and an IP Address..

*these are from memory so the word order might be jumbled, but look for anything that looks remotely related to errors and packet loss*

im connected wirelessly to my cable connection, but yes wirelesssly using linksys 54mbps transfer rate, that might have something to do with it but dont know. is there a way to figure out tick rate for servers? sometimes the server name has it but thats the only place ive seen tick rate. so when i play and it freezes i should bring up the consol and look for error messages? ok ill see if it says anything and get back to you, thanks again. ill reply soon

Wireless is most likely the cause. Can you possibly play on a wired connection, if only temporarily and see if it persists

ill try it, should i connect through the router/hub still or strait through the modem or whatever. also what exactly is the cause because ill probably still need to use wireless no matter what, and is their any way to make a better connection wirelessly? thanks and ill try and see if wired works better

ok well today my router was giving me more problems than usual, so i called the manufacture(linksys) and i found out that my firmware was an old version and i needed to update. ill test and see if i lose data now, maybe that was my problem all along. ill test CSS now to see if the problem reoccures
