    "Network Cable Unplugged" After Reformat

My roommate's laptop hard drive busted and he took it to the Geek Squad or whatever. A week and an absurd amount of money later it comes back with a reformatted Win7 install, but now when he tries to use the wired internet it says the cable is unplugged. The cable is definitely good, it works on...

    Can't Reformat

Fixed it now, by doing something similar. I hooked it up to a different computer to get my stuff off. But then I didn't have access to another machine, so I just booted ubuntu off of a CD and reformatted from there. It's back up and working now. Thanks for the help.

    Can't Reformat

Yup. Had 2x 512 + 2x 256. The faulty one was a 256; I just took both of the 256s out, so am running at 1gb right now.

    Can't Reformat

Internet said I didn't need to change any jumpers with SATA hard drives, so I didn't, and that seemed to work.

    Can't Reformat

Safe modes a no go. Can't get into windows at all.

    Can't Reformat

After what I assume is a bad reaction to anti-virus (because it only started after a critical error in bitdefender), my parents' computer started BSODing. It got more and more rapid until eventually it wouldn't even get into Windows. I managed to recover all necessary files by hooking the...

    Looking for a surge supressor

Recently my PSU died, and I have a suspicion that it occured because of the many electrical storms my area endured over the past few months (the computer was plugged in, but not in use at the time). It was connected through a generic power bar IIRC, but I'm looking for something a bit more...

    Trying to diagnose PC issues

Within the last week or so, my computer has been nonfunctional. It started out at first I tried pressing the power button, and the power would flick on and off repeatedly, but never do anything else. I tried this multiple times and eventually it started up for good and stayed on for hours while...

    Looking for a new monitor

I've never actually owned an LCD monitor for my own PC, and I think its about time to give the 19" CRT monitor a rest (though I'll keep it for backup ;)). I'm looking for a new monitor, something in the $250-300 CDN range, and probably ~22 inch. I'll be playing some PC games, but would like to...

    Confused by Speedfan readings

There are so many reading in Speedfan, I'm not sure what to look at. And one of them seems abnormally high. Here's what they look like: Temp1: 48C Temp2: 39C Temp3: -1C HD0: 42C Core1: 42C Core2: 43C Core: 70C (?) Ambient: 0C I'm particularly concerned and confused by the 70C (with...

    Internet cutting out

Lately my internet connection has been cutting out unpredictably. Some days it will cut out hardly at all, other times it will cut out every 10 minutes. It usually lasts 30 seconds to a minute, but seriously messes up any internet gaming. It’s probably been going on a month now. I called...

Old AGP Graphics card for WoW

My brothers ATI 9800 AGP card busted today, started artifacting like crazy. My bro mostly plays WoW, War3 and similarly demanding games, but nothing too big. So we went over to Staples and bought an FX 5500 as a quick replacement, but it seems to be insufficient (it was pretty cheap, so it was...

Lots of gaming to do - Need to get my PC ready

Ok, sweet. I got My front audios working, used the manual to get the filters off (they were gross, but the inside of my computer was nearly dust free). I think I'm going to get this cooler for my CPU: Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink - Retail and...

Lots of gaming to do - Need to get my PC ready

If it could mess something up I'm just not going to bother with solder. Maybe tape will work.... The back USB ports still work, so I won't be needing a new case or add in card. I also checked the online manual, and it did in fact have instructions on how to remove the grills (IIRC the...

Lots of gaming to do - Need to get my PC ready

As of Tuesday night, I'm done exams. I also quit my job a while back. And I don't work out anymore. My point? I have 28 (twenty-eight!!!) days of nothing but playing and shopping for computer games. Because of this, I want my computer in tip-top condition, so I want to open 'er up and do...

    Windows Not Starting

Well I've had my computer unplugged for about a month, and finally I'm hooking it back up (but not without problems - my monitor wasn't working but that's another issue). Anyways, since my monitor wasn't working I definately hit the restart/power button several times out of frustration. Now...

    Antec A900 vs P180

Both cases are excellent for gaming. I chose the p180 for mine because it looks better ;). Antec makes awesome cases. Either of these is excellent for both cooling and silence. But I believe the p180 is sightly quieter, with the Antec 900 being better at cooling. Both are good for each...

    Which router is better?

Ok all I want to do is essentially hook up 2 computers over a network, but I know nothing about routers, and can see no difference between this and this. Hooking up a printer would be nice too.
