    HDD problem?

Hey Will, Happened to my HDD's in Vista too, there's some power setting options if you use the search function in the start menu and you can set specifics telling it never to sleep. It stopped doing it with my HDD's after that. Mike

    Blue Error Screen

It does first strike as a memory issue but at my workplace everyone tells me it can only be resolved by a system recovery with format, and it's the only solution that has seemed to work with customers I've had with that problem (They never rang in again afterwards so I'll assume it worked well)...

Pc Powers Up No Display Though

------------------------------------------------------------------------ Try removing all peripherals except power lead and monitor and see if that makes a difference. USB and PS/2 devices have been known to cause hang on POST. Try disconnecting the HDD and seeing if you get a display. Sure...

    suspected RAM problem

Hey PabloParez, Make sure it's seated correctly first. 5 minutes is a tad long to load up Windows! Check your mobo manual for recommended DIMM configurations, I know my mobo doesn't like it when I place one stick in slot 1 and another in slot 3, it wants them both together or it won't utilise...

    RAM timings and CAS latency

The lower, the better :) For example, a stick of DDR400 PC3200 RAM operating at 3.0 3-6-6-8 won't be anything near as good as a stick that can operate at 2.0 2-3-3-6. Happy shopping! Mike

    networking help appreciated

Help appreciated They're the wireless adaptors I spoke of... Make sure the drivers for the devices are installed correctly if they came with installation discs... Not a big fan of wireless networking myself so it might be best to ask someone else on the forums... I'll link Matt to this post...

    networking help appreciated

Help appreciated If it's not WLAN or W/LAN then you're out of luck my friend. It looks like all you've got is a standard onboard wired LAN card. You can buy wireless USB dongles that act as a wireless card, they don't cost much... Try buying one of those, that'll do the trick. Hope...

Help appreciated Check if you have a wireless LAN card in your PC, that's what you'll need rather than an internal modem :) Mike

Pc Powers Up No Display Though

Try all the things I mentioned. It'll reveal an awful lot to us. Trust me :) Mike

Pc Powers Up No Display Though

Check if it's loading up into windows, because you might actually be stuck at POST. You can do this by observing the HDD light on the front bezel. If it flashes for about a minute or so then flickers a bit then stops, it's loaded into the windows logon screen. If you get no flashing then the HDD...

Help!!! PC Tower wont turn on.

Might as well try an ATX reset first before you spend your dosh on a component. Take the power lead out, hold the power button on the front of your tower for about 25 seconds, put the power lead back in and see if it works. 25% of "No Power" problems at my workplace are solved by that. It's...

    Stuttering problem.

Windows stuttering and mouse cursor skipping... Windows slow loading... Exactly what happened when two of my previous Intel CPU's failed. If the problem is your memory, you'd be plagued with more than just stuttering. Worse - no stuttering, just plain errors, restarts, blue screens, and...

    Video Card on a Budget

Welcome to the forums... Is your budget 220 dollars or 220 pounds? I can think of much better cards for 220 pounds... MUCH better cards... Thanks, Mike

Pre-release Vista copy coming my way

That's exactly what I do, but despite making a partition just for Windows XP, Windows XP likes to format the entire drive against my commands which makes me sick beyond belief as the drive that all my games are installed to is the WinXP drive because it's the fastest of the 3 I have. It's more...

Pre-release Vista copy coming my way

Here's something extremely interesting from the guys that have been testing Vista first at my workplace... The Vista installation DVD comes with an image of the Vista operating system intact. Quite simply, if your installation of vista goes wrong somehow, you can load a factory-settings Windows...

    Upgrading Motherboard

A 3ghz AMD CPU would have to be overclocked matey. They run at lower clock speeds but get an awful lot of work done per hz. My reccommendation is an Athlon 64 3700+ because it has a 1mb cache, good performance increase over your current CPU, a great overclocker (If you get into that kind of...

    Upgrading Motherboard

Hello Spawnslayer and welcome to the forums, It's a bad idea to go for pure mhz these days. For example, an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ running at 1.8ghz can trash an AMD Sempron 3500+ running at 2.0ghz. If you're looking for an Intel PC I don't know much about them other than the most popular 3ghz...

    System Failure (restart)

Could be both theoretically... But here's a diag for you - Remove one stick of RAM and use the PC as you normally would. If you encounter the same problems, then the piece of RAM you left in is guilty. If you get no errors then the RAM you left in is fine, and the RAM you took out is guilty...
