    New Case, No Experience, HELP!!!

Yeah I recognise the green clips.. They are there so you don't have to mess around with screws and instead it simply clips your PCI/AGP/PCI-E card where you'd usually screw it, holding it in place... It's a good idea, providing the clips don't break off at any point... Thanks Big B, I wasn't...

How much computer hardware have you bought this year?

This year I've bought... ASRock K7VT4A PRO mobo (So I could use 5200FX, old mobo was having none of it) ASUS Geforce 5200FX ECS Elitegroup NF4 HT2000 mobo (The jump to PCI-E after Ebuyer sent me a PCI-E version of the X800GTO rather than the AGP version I asked for) AMD Athlon 64 3000+...

    User Introduction Thread

Time to introduce myself as well... I'm Mike, 20, from Nottingham UK. I work for The Tech Guys, a company that deals with telephone tech support for Curry's, Dixons, and PC World. I joined these forums as an opportunity to help others, test my diagnostic skills, and also learn from other...

    New Case, No Experience, HELP!!!

I'd have thought card clip is that new case feature where instead of using screws to secure your hardware, you use low-hassle clips? No matter how much space you've got in your case for hard drives, it all boils down to how many hard drives your motherboard will allow to be connected. Your...

Screen going black - Light on Monitor stays Green

Close, because overcharged or leaking capacitors can cause initial symptoms of USB devices making the PC unable to boot into windows. An ATX reset drains the capacitors a bit (When you press the power button it sends a small electric pulse to let the motherboard know it needs to power up, and...

Screen going black - Light on Monitor stays Green

It needs to be done with all internal cables set up as you normally would do (Front panel especially!). It's the external cables and leads you need to disconnect. It might not work, but it's worth a try... Many cases at my workplace where customers have issues with starting their PC up can be...

    computer randomly turns off

I still reccommend running chkdsk as HDD errors can happen even a week after reinstallation of windows. memtest86 I believe would be the best memory tester...

    hard disk full

Also Tavio, do you use Windows Media Centre to record freeview programs? The amount of space that feature uses to record video to the HDD is absurd on higher settings. Mike

    hard disk full

Is it me, or wouldn't a single hard disk have "boot" in the health field rather than just "system"? Doesn't this mean that the boot partition is hidden? EDIT: And Tavio, have you tried what I wrote about putting the cursor over important folders to determine the sizes in case you come accross...

'strike F1 to retry boot or strike F2 to setup utlility' PROBLEM !!

I believe PC world do a data recovery service, but it'll cost you. Alternatively buy a new hard drive and connect both the old and new one by IDE/SATA and find data recovery programs like Recover My Files. These also cost money to activate, but if your data is more important to you than money...

    hard disk full

Karanislove, you may have read it incorrectly. Although I do see how easy it would be to misunderstand it. But yeah, if it's saying Tavio has only 104mb of disk space left then something's definitely wrong if Tavio hasn't installed so much data.

    No Video Input

Also if your friend has had the GPU installed recently by someone (with all onboard graphics drivers removed), check your friend isn't still using the onboard graphics card port instead of the new GPU port.

    hard disk full

Sounds to me like a partitioning error. Anyone second that? I think this because perhaps the majority of the HDD may be in a seperate partition set to hidden... EDIT: Strike that... If Tavio scrolls over the drive in question in My Computer and it says the total size is near enough 200ish GB...

    Unable to boot up

Your mobo capacitors may be full. Automatic shutdowns are commonplace when this happens because it is a motherboards way of making sure they don't overload and pop. They charge gradually over time, some more than others, depending on your mobo model and overall rig setup. Remove all cables from...

Screen going black - Light on Monitor stays Green

Try an ATX reset. this is done by removing all cables from the PC and holding the power button in for 30 seconds. Until we know your specs, that's all I can suggest for now. As Willz said, it may well be a power issue. This is likely since you've mentioned the PC sometimes not turning on. Good...

    Help! Computer FREEZING!

Non-matching size memory modules have been known to cause crashing in games. However, it's more likely to be corrupt memory. Imagine memory to be many blocks that fill up as more memory is required. The moment data is written to a bad block and is attempted to be read again, the data is corrupt...

    computer randomly turns off

ahdrum, please update on how your destructive recovery goes after you've done it. If the problem persists, try running chkdsk to scan for HDD faults. There could be a bad sector that is being attempted to be read which contains an important file vital for the running of Windows. Make sure you...
