The cpu multiplier should be at 12 and the fsb at 200, as well as the ram. Disable everything that you're not using, like ports and ide channels and/or sata channels, etc The rest should be fine.

I used to have a Palomino 2000+ and it ovverheated too with the stock hsf. That cpu simply runs hot and there's no way around it but a quality hsf and grease.

What I do is I put a bit on the hsf, use that to cover the cpu, and wash what remains a bit. That ensures that the imperfections are filled there too. I don't leave a layer on the hsf, I just leave what's hard to wash, so there isn't much, but just enough.

The psu, the video card and the ram are all fine. Tomorrow I'll have another cpu to test the board with. After that, I'll know for sure whether the problem is the cpu or the main board. In the meantime, if anyone has anything to say, please do.

That Enermax will be perfect. Since that system will be used for gaming, I suggest you get a CRT monitor instead, like the NEC I mentioned in a previous post.

The only thing I really don't like in your list is the Maxtor hard drive. And I would also get the 6600GT. Also, you should try and find out what psu (brand) comes with the case.

They come on a floppy disk that came with the hard drive.

The setting is called "Primary display" or something like that, and should be set to AGP if you wish to use an agp card.
