    What's the point of mail-in-rebates?

Yeah well the companies gain from it only if you don't send them. So send them and leave it at that.

If that's the case then it probably was indicated somewhere in very small print

The Dark Side of Windows Vista

And that's why Microsoft make so much money, because of how Windows looks. It looks so friendly, it's so inviting to use Windows. You just boot and everything's there, you don't have to do anything (actually you can't do anything). When it came out, I actually had to have a heated argument...

The Dark Side of Windows Vista

Well to be honnest, since XP's been out, I've used Win2K much more often. I don't need to be taken by the hand. Wait scratch that, I don't WANT to be taken by the hand. I installed Mandriva on a Compag Evo N600C a few days ago, and it took me 4 hours to setup my DWL-G630 wireless adapter...

    Mandriva Sound problem

You can download Linux drivers for your sound card directly from Creative Labs : Home Page - The leader in Digital Entertainment for your PC and the Internet if you want. I'm sure it's possible to get them through your repositories if you set them up right, although I haven't tried yet.

    What's the point of mail-in-rebates?

The answer is simple. With a MIR, you have to pay the full price, and the tax that goes with it, to the store, which means the store makes more money. The MIR is a manufacturer thing. The manufacturer offers you a rebate, not the actual store. Which means that if you buy that specific product...

    Mandriva Linux

When it comes to ATI drivers and you want them to work perfectly, you can't just run the installer (or at least that's what I read). In fact, when you run the installer you're given an option to rebuild the package for your specific distro. Or, You can use a pre-built package for your specified...

    The Perpetual Upgrade Thread

I decided not to get it, for two reasons: 1) I can't really afford it 2) I could have had a brand new BFG 7900 GT OC 256mb for a little bit more as it was on sale at a local store @ $269.99.

    The Perpetual Upgrade Thread

Not where I live. I can't get the gs locally yet, and on ncix I can get it for $240 AR (factory oced) while the cheapest gt is just under $300 AR. Locally, the cheapest gt is $330. I also have to consider I'm being charged taxes for those MIR. All in all I'm looking at a $30-$40 difference...

    help on buying my PC

I reiterate my recommendation of going with a Conroe cpu. I would also ditch Norton. There are very good free alternatives. Also, unless you plan on getting a second 7950gx2 in the very near future, you can ditch the sli mobo and grab a non sli one for cheaper.
