2 Routers

Hey

Currently i have my pda, my mac book and my 2 desktops connected via ethernet cables and network adapters. It works fine, but i want to be able to have another router in my room so i can connect things to it like my ps2.

So im going to connect my dg834g router to my other dg834g router via a big ass ethernet cable. I am however not what you'd call an advanced networker, meaning i don't know much. Can anyone tell me how i can do this?

Ive had a little play and ive seen if i could sort it but with no luck. Ive tried disabling the Use Router as DHCP Server function but on the other computers i then get no access.

So any help?

to your other dg834g router?

A switch is much more appropriate unless your trying to segment the network.
 
Just use the switch side then, so you will end up with a 3 port switch (as the 4th is taken up by the other router

Yes you can use two routers, but its must be an adsl router => dsl/cable router (ie. Netgear DG834G => Netgear RP614) or dsl/cable router => dsl/cable router.

The way to use both your DG834G together,as Impotence said, is to use the second DG as a switch:
1. Just connect both router with a network/LAN cable. Do not use the WAN port.
2. Turn on DHCP on your main router.
3. Connect your PS2 to the LAN port of your second router. (Assuming that your ps2 is on automatic IP detection.)

You should be fine from there.

Thanx for the advice. Would however just like to tell you all that whilst i was sorting my room out today, i found my old router. This has a wan port whilst my other two routers do not.

I thought i may aswell try this, won't do any warm. So i plugged the ethernet cable into the dg834g lan port and connected it to the "old routers" wan port.

Success, i havent changed any settings at all inside my old router. Mainly because i can't remember the login details :confused: . Anyway its working now. I can connect to the downstairs wireless network or i can plug into my upstairs router.
