Can't seem to overclock

I've just got me a DFI LANParty NF4 m/b with an Athlon 64 3200 CPU running XP Pro. For some reason, Windows hates me for trying to overclock. Even if I crank up the FSB up to 201 (from 200), I get blue screen stop messages (IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS etc) after Windows has finished starting up.
Now I'm not too familiar with overclocking so it's probably something stupid! But anyone have any ideas? It isn't heat because even at full load, my CPU doesn't go above 45 celcius.
 
1GB Geil value (2x512mb) PC3200 dual channel Cas 2.5 6-3-3. This is probably what it might be because memory is something I don't fully understand yet and I daren't mess with the timings because I don't know what I'm doing!
 
Oooh. Yeah, the DFI NF4 boards tend not to play with ValueRAM very well. You might see about relaxing the memory timings and/or upping the voltage, but what I'm gathering, most people just don't have good luck running cheaper DDR on these boards. If you don't have the 3/10 BIOS, I'd snag that as I understand it fixes a lot of issues.

Try 3-3-3 for the first three values in the DRAM Config menu and up the voltage to 2.7-2.8. Run Memtest too...I forget where you toggle it, but enable that and let it run after you change the settings.
 
then u might want to refer to a third party program, like soft fsb or some other sort, that through software overclocks ur computer at start up tho it can get annoying but fun to show off
 
I don't know how well SoftFSB will work, but I've heard people having random reboots and/or stability issues with nVidia's nTune software on the DFI NF4's.
 
I briefly tried nTune. Every time I tried to overclock something, I got an error messege of some kind or there just wasn't any (noticable) gain. Haven't tried Soft FSB yet but it's something I may give a try.
 
Just in case anyone else has the same issue, I solved it by flashing my BIOS to the latest version ... after I did that, I could overclock with no issues!
