Case Cooling advice

Hi all.

Just wanted some general advice for the cooling of my PC.

I've got space for two fans at the back of the computer, but no space at the front. Normally the front fan would blow inwards and the back fan(s) would blow out of the computer, creating a good airflow.
What's the best way to position the fans if you have no space for a fan at the front to blow inwards? Is it better to change the back fans so they blow inwards, or keep them blowing outwards? How about one fan blows in and the other blows out?
 
Your best decision would be to just buy a new chassis with the proper cooling and therby be able to stick fans in the front and back (you can get a good chassis for around $50 USD). However, if that's out of the question, I would suggest putting both of the fans in the back blowing out. There is more than likely at least a vent in the front of your chassis that the fans in the back can pull air from. Putting a fan pulling in and one blowing out wouldn't be productive at all. Tin-snips suck unless you're just snipping off a wire-style grill. Most people like the Dremel (or something similiar like the Black & Decker RBX), or using a hole saw. I see a SawzAll as being major overkill for case modding. That's got a lot of power, and I'd think that people would really mangle a case like that, especially when working with some finer cuttings. You would need to have that case tightly secured if you were going to try a Sawz-All, and even then, I still would be really hesitant to try that.

Of course, measure twice, cut once. ;)

The case is a PCICASE HyperLine II and I bought it from ebuyer :D , i'm suprised it turn up in one peice! It's a bit cheap - but then again it's only for my ECS mobo college build. This is what it looks like:

As you can see, there is no room for a fan at the front. All of those bays are in use! I've got 2 hard drives, 1 FDD, 1 USB Front Panel and 2 CDROM devices!
 
I think what you need to make sure that you are happy with temps in your rig.
Idealy you should have at least one fan blowing in and at leats one blowing out.
It just means that more fresh air is pushed in. The problem that if you hade a fan from the back blowing in and the one on top or (below) blowing out, the fresh air has hardley any chance of circulating before it is being sucked out again. IMHO you are better off to have two blowing out. This way a lot more air will be sucked in from all over the case and more air will flow from front to back.

I started my rig with just one fan at the back. I never even knew I had a space for another one in the front. My temps were too high so I added one. Then I added a side fan by crudely, drilling the side and attaching a fan. I also changed my CPU cooler. Temps dropped dramaticaly but the noise was too much.... so I am back to one intake, one out. If your PSU has two fans that will also help.

What ever you do try and use silent fans. Mine are driving me mad. I cannot wait to buy a new case which can take 120mm fans....
 
I must be crazy because I love all the noise created by fans! It makes the machine sound more powerful :P

My temps are fine so when a mate gave me a cool fan with shiny colors i just put it in for the hell of it. Its blowing out is this gonna make my sys run even cooler or will it make no diference
 
good point i should check it and ill post the diference tomorrow. I should have thought to test it. Sorry wasnt thinking.
