I Want To Know The Difference Between Ubuntu And Kubuntu And How I Can Upgrade My Ubuntu To Kubuntu Without Completely Re-installing A New OS (Basically I Just Want To Upgrade So That I Can Still Keep My Data, Packages, Users etc)

-But Before I Do That I First Want To Understand Why!

First of all, why do you post in all caps? (that must be the reason your words only have first letter capitalised).

Install the kubuntu-desktop package.

basically Kubuntu is Ubuntu, all the *ubuntu family are all basically the same OS but use different WMs (window managers)

Kubuntu uses KDE, Ubuntu uses Gnome, Xubuntu uses Xfce

and the version 7.04 = 2007 & 04 = month, 04 = April

so Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 was released June 2006

hope that helps

yeah, however user settings are stored in ~.kde (if Kubuntu)

Edit: so, you can reinstall the OS if you delete ~.kde and then reinstall[ot]~ = /home/username[/ot]

kubuntu has a very basic window manager called XFCE. This is useful for slow computers or people that don't want too much features on the desktop. To upgrade, go to the package manager and search for xubuntu. now select and install these components. Reboot and at the logon screen select sessions > xfce. now you can log on.

No Kubuntu uses KDE, Xubuntu uses XFCE. As I said, installing kubuntu-desktop

Arent they desktop managers. I thought window managers were something a bit more simple... like x on its own (clock and command line window) or fluxbox, sawfish, enlightenment etc.

That is very true. CDE, KDE, GNOME, and XFCE are DESKTOP ENVIRONMENTS (the DE in KDE).

All dekstop environments have window managers built in. Window managers are simply the subsystem that displays windows and buttons and anything graphical interface related to the screen.
