"Did not assign network address"

I have a desktop computer and a laptop, both connected to the same modem, except the laptop is connected via wireless, and the desktop is connected via ethernet cable.

My dekstop says I can't connect to the internet because my network did not assign a network address to my computer.

What do I do to get connected back to the inernet? :[
 
more info please, like the make & model of your modem, although i suspect it is in fact a router & is DHCP enabled ?
