Hi, hoping someone can offer some advice on this issue. I've had a look around and haven't seen it covered anywhere else.

A customer came to me recently with all his .lnk files disassociated and .exe files doing nothing (no response to double-clicks). I fixed it by doing a repair install, but two days later the same thing happened again, and this time the install didn't solve it. I found a couple of registry patches online that seemed to do the trick yesterday, but lo and behold today the exe files have gone again.

Has anyone come across this before? There's no unusual hardware or software on the PC, it's been scanned with Kaspersky IS 6.0, Spyware Doctor and AdAware. The system isn't new and the guy's been using it problem free for two years, so I'm totally mystified as to what keeps causing this!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the Windows Event Viewer for application and system errors?
