I just bought a WD 500Gb external hard drive with its own power supply and USB connection to allow me to expand the availiable storage on my laptop.
Whilst trying it out for the first time I lost power to the hard drive whilst transferring files and after restoring power the laptop will not read the drive. I realise that hard drives do not like to be shutdown whilst they are writing to the disc but I was wondering if anyone has any information that would possibly resolve this issue and allow me to use the disc as I intended. Fortunatly I haven't lost any important information but I would like to be able to use the disc.
I have tried running the WD diagnostic tool and I keep getting an error message that reads "cable test::read diagnostics sector error!"
Any help would be appreciated
