hi
As this is my first post on this forum I would like to say "hello!"
I have a problem, I have a old pc that I don't use much, its a amd 200mhz, 64mb ram, win 98, 10 gig hard drive etc...
I recently powered it up and the psu exploded and I was greeted with a puff of smoke and it died :(
So I ordered a new psu and installed it, I went to power it up and all the fans came on, all the lights came on yet it won't boot up!
I have cheked all power connecters and they are connected properly and I have tested it with a mutilmeter so I know the motherboard and all the other devices are recieving power.
My question is this,
Have I fried the motherboard? if so, can I tell visually? Will there be burn marks? can you fry a motherboard with no visual confirmation?
these are the symptons
It powers up
All fans are powered and working
all leds are on
there are no beeps ( no post test)
it just sits there!
usually I would just try another M/B to see if that works but I don't have a spare one and I don't really want to spend money on a new one for a old pc unless I'm sure its the motherboard.
any help would be great, thanks
mark
