GFX Card Hardware Issue?

Hi all... I just got my new 7600gt gfx card (256MB AGP 8x). I installed it successfully and updated the drivers. I stuck in a few games such as COD2 and FEAR, and they both auto-configured the gfx setting (as they do). However, when I put in TES4: Oblivion, a message came up saying that it detected my new hardware (the 7600gt) but it was unrecognizable and could not configure the correct graphical setting, so it just put it on random medium settings.
Does anybody know what this is and why it is happening and possible how to fix it??

Thanks for any help received in advance :D

Happens with my 7900GTX too.

From what I gather, it cannot autodetect settings for an exact card model that wasn't around upon the release of Oblivion...

ARE YOU SERIOUS LOL!!!???? Thats ridiculous lol... that really is disappointing to hear. So what can we do about it? I mean, how do I know what gfx setting for Oblivion my card can take without being hurt lol. And also, I can't believe there have not been any driver updates to alleviate this sill problem....!

Well it's the only logical explanation, since the AGP version of the 7600GT was released after Oblivion was released and so was my 7900GTX.

Open the console with ` and type tdt and press enter. That'll show you the framerate, so if for example your idea of a tolerable framerate is 20fps, keep upping the eye candy until the average framerate is about what you want it to be. That's probably the best way to find your cards max capability...

Hope that helps,

Mike

Thanks a lot man, much appreciated :good: I'll try it out... I have fraps so I don't think I need to type tdt in the console to check my frames. Thanks again.

Oh and you need to remember, when you're in the prison/caves/sewers at the start, it's not using up much of your graphical resources, so it'd be wise to commence testing when you first enter the outside world. I made that mistake with my old card and my smile faded to an ugly frown when I got outside and my FPS was at 3fps haha...
