I've been curious to about the psuedo-AGP slots that have been popping up on the PCIe (PCI Express) chipset-based boards from a few companies. Gigabyte has called their pseudo-AGP slot a GEAR slot, and it looks like it could be bad news for AGP cards in the long run. The Inquirer has the low-down.

The GA-81915P Duo Pro-A PCI Express uses the Intel 915P chipset for the LGA 775 processor, but includes the Gigabyte enhanced AGP riser (GEAR) slot for people who don't want to plump for expensive PCIe cards yet.

Well, the whole article is here. I'm also curious to see if and how performance is affected with this pseudo-AGP implementation, but I suppose we'll see that eventually...from the brave souls willing to risk the life of a GeForce 6800 or Radeon X800 AGP card.
