Help with LGA775

Hi guys, I recently purchased a D.I.Y. com and was planning to overclock it. I'm using a Gigabyte 89145GMF 945 Chipset and a LGA775 P4 3.0ghz processor. After setting up everything, I installed the "Easy Tune" overclocker, but the option to overclock appears faded and "locked". Since the processor which I bought was unlocked, then why is it that both the BIOS and windows-based overclocker appears locked? Or is it that Intel has recently done something to its chips? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Specifically which option is unavailable?
Intel has locked their processors for years now, since the P4 1.6Ghz i think, maybe earlier!
Unless your very lucky it's likey your CPU IS locked!
 
i would of thought that motherboard would have overclocking options in the bios :eek:
 
Yes, it does, but only for ram speed and timing. Apparently the manual has CPU voltage frequency blah blah, but mines does not... Does it mean that Intel has locked up all LGA 775 processors?
 
Software OC=meh. Abit and MSI's Windows-based OC software is supposed to be pretty good, but they operate with a hardware counterpart on the motherboard. I don't *think* Gigabyte has something like that as of yet.

In BIOS you should be able to unlock the FSB and voltage controls by hitting Ctrl+F1, if I remember correctly. Why the hell they do that, I don't know for sure.
 
i would of thought those Gigabyte motherboards would have had all options unlocked for the cpu, in bios :\
 
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind and keep trying.

Through windows based OCing, the Easy Tune 5, the overclocking tab is grey or "locked". As for BIOS, there is only the RAM speed and timings, I don't see a single CPU FSB or voltage settings that apply to the CPU. :(

I'm not really sure what to say. You may want to see if something like SoftFSB will work for you. I haven't looked, but if this is a value-designated board, then you may be looking at a board without overclocking options, period.
