Hey guys this is my first post and yeah im a noob :( I just got my new X800PRO AGP DDR3 256M and swapped it with my Nvidia 5500MX. When i first put card in nothing happened then realised i hadnt plugged in the power cord thing.

So it was all working and i put in the CD with drivers and installed the drivers and as it got to the end it asked me to restart. So i did and as it got back to the desktop it restarted again. and again, and again and again and now it wont stop. Anyone got any ideas???

Thanks so much for any help you guys have.

Did you uninstall all old nvidia drivers, before installing the new card? Maybe there's a conflict between the nivida and the ati drivers.

Try starting your computer in safe mode, and if you can, download Driver Cleaner pro from this link.

The program is easy to use, just select the type of files you'd like to remove from the list and select "start" I suggest deleting both completely, reboot and then install the ati drivers again.

Maybe you didn't need me to post this, but here's how to start windows in safe mode (if needed, even I can't always remember the right button)

Using the F8 Method

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. After boot, gently tap F8 repeatedly until presented "Windows XP Advanced Options" menu
  3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
  4. Press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode
  5. Perform above described steps and then reboot to boot back into normal mode

If you are able to get in through safe mode, go to My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, and uncheck Automatically restart.

This way, instead of continually rebooting, you will get the BSOD (blue screen of death) which, if you are lucky, "might" give an error message that is useful.
