Is there a way where you can install a program on multiple OS, instead of having to install that program twice?

if the program is self contained and doesn't require any .DLL's or registry entries then yes you can run it on multiple versions of Windows[ot]a while ago programs usually had a .INI (containing program settings) file in the same directory as the executable, but nowadays all program settings are stored in the registry[/ot]hope that helps

How do you mean multiple OSs? You mean Windows 2000 and XP, or Windows and Linux? If its the latter, don't bother trying.

Win. XP & Win. Vista Ultimate

When I say programs I mean regular full install programs, that would probebly require registry ie. (Office 2007, anit-virus, games, media etc.)

    I have 5 partitions.

    Win.XP
    Win. Vista
    Office/Apps
    Media/Games
    Other

so I want to be able to install a program in the appropriate partition, and have it be able to run throguh both OS, instead og having to install it twice to that same partition; is this possible

if you want to install software to a partition (other than C: ) the files installed from an XP install would be visible from Vista but the application will not work, if you then installed the software into Vista (obviously to the same partition you installed it from XP, this would work successfully (assuming the software works in both XP and Vista)

no, in theory, if you could centralise the .DLL files and combine the registy, it should be possible (in theory) but if you were to try it Windows would probably start disappering up it's own back side, and thats just with the files having conflicting versions - in short, no, it's not possible[ot]although it would be funny to watch XP & Vista having a monumental battle for supremesy[/ot]

although, i might try it, should be fun, but then again i'd have to buy Vista :swear:, guess i'll have to just imagine the outcome[ot]you should see in my head now[/ot]

I didn't see the forum, since I'm using RSS feeds to check threads.

It wouldn't actually be possible to combine in any sort of way.
