Yeah, that is nice. You dont see many old Golfs anymore so it really is something different.
Even the XR2,3 and 4s are scarce nowadays. Surely the value has gone up on decent ones.

I bet you get a lot of chicks with that thing. :p

Seriously, though, that little paint job makes it look nice. Hope the guts work well to go with that thing.

Nice, are your going to make it like these OTT boy racer cars?

You gonna do the engine up? maybe put some decent speakers in?

That looks pretty boy racerish to me!
Standard Mk1 Golfs are quite modest. I love em.

I did read the Php code, but i did not think of those as propor engine upgrades, had a longer look at it now lol.

Whats it's max speed? and how long does it take that to get to 0-60mph?

My younger brother had an original mk 1 golf up until he got his type-r last year. Mint condition in red, 1981, original alloys, bodywork, fuel cap, unmarked interior and ran like a dream. Plus 21000 miles from new.

My old man spotted it in the best place to find quality cars, advertised at the side of the road'

paid 600 quid for it in 2002, bought off an old woman who had had it in her garage for ages.

My old man sold it last year for £1950.

not a bad return of capital

    I don't get why you'd lower a 2.1 tho?

The exhaust isnt that hard to replace.

The sump on the other hand is a different matter!

I'm aware of the added benefits from lowering a performance car, but a 2.1? The difference would be negligible. I say a 2.1, It's still really a 1.8 made more efficent, he hasn't bored the cylinders for the added cubic capacity, he's probally just chaged the bearings, so claiming it's a 2.1 is just a guess in my honest opinion.

The sump doesn't just hold the oil, thats almost your engines life-line, it passes oil through the rest of the engine. It holds the cranks, which look after the cylinders and theres a pump in there that sucks the oil up to the rockers. I'm not going to write a long winded explanation on this, as I'm a little of topic, but if you knock the sump off, you're in deep trouble. Alot of performance cars have metal protection plates protecting the sump for this very consequence.

considering the power to weight ratio of the MK1s, whilst its not a evo or supra performance, its certainly not lame. and with people these days changing the back box for 'performance gains' of 1% (yeah right), even modest engine upgrades can make a differance. as for lowering your ride, yeah its not going to make your car go any faster in a straight line, but race someone in the country-side... you sure as hell can take those corners a lot faster. :chk:

Interesting concept, I guess it would be a great idea to go racing in the countryside with an MK1, that lowered chasis is really going to pay for itself. :|
