My laptop is about a month old, and the disc drive was working just fine for awhile- I can't say when it stopped working because I wasn't using it for awhile. But it is not reading CDs or DVDs, it doesn't even seem to register that there's anything in there. It's an ASUS M50Vm-A1, with a Hitachi HTS54323L9A300 disc drive, running Vista. My computer can't locate any new drivers to download, says that the device is working properly, and I tried installing the new version of BIOS (which the ASUS handbook reccomends) but it did nothing to improve the situation. To my knowledge I haven't jammed any foreign objects in or bumped the computer around a lot or anything.... Any suggestions? The ASUS helpsite seems to hate me.
