new hd - now computer won't recognize internet signal?

hey guys, MAN its been a while since I dropped by last.

good to see some familiar names still popular over threads!

but to get to the point of this thread,

my mother managed to short out her old HD attempting to save power and shutting the power strip off without even fully shutting down her computer :x:

her cause was quite noble but after reinstalling a new hard drive and reloading windows (other HD is being shipped off to specially retrieve files from the crashed system) I notice that the new build won't even detect an internet connection, I must have tried nearly everything in my power to set up a new connection, even manually typing in IP/Gateway numbers and proxy server entries.

I was considering doing it the old fashioned way through the command prompt to clear network data and try to refresh network connections but man I've forgotten so much of what I used to know haha

damn guitar and music school comin up.

help out an old friend guys?
 
hey dude, welcome back

what does the network status say, unable to obtain IP? I'm guessing you have tried the usual stuff like different wire or if connected tried pinging other computers?
 
the thing is like, its not even noticing a connection, no matter how I try setting it up its like theres network hardware issues

dare I say I dont remember how to ping?

On board ethernet? If it is try a pci ethernet card or a usb to ethernet. The on board mite be dead.

could very well be a hardware issue, little dave has a good suggestion.

as for ping, I'm sure you can remember :)

I had a desktop that took a shot of power. The on board ethernet died went to a pci card only have the pci slot's die.In the end the Mobo died,it fun while it lasted.
