Hi everyone. I hope y'all are having a great holiday weekend so far. I have always come to this forum for help when I needed it, but I lost access to my old e-mail account and forgot my information, so this is my first time posting on this account.

The situation I find myself in right now is that I purchased a new monitor (HP 2311x) and I am having trouble using the DVI connection on it. In order to be able to explain my situation more specifically and understand any advice y'all give better, I have done a bit of research on my own, so I am going to attempt to use that information to explain exactly what is going on. The DVI cable that came with the monitor has 2 ends that are both DVI-D Single Link. The video card that I am using (GeForce GTX 260) has 2 DVI ports that I believe are both DVI-I Dual Link. The cable will fit into the port snugly, but the monitor will not detect any signal. Well, it detects that it is connected to something, but no image appears on the screen.

Previously, I was using a monitor that used a VGA cable with a DVI converter on it. Currently, the only way I can get this monitor to work is to use that same setup. I was wondering if there was a way to get the DVI to work with what I have or if it could be done with a different converter.

If there is any other information that you need to help me out, just let me know what it is, and I'll try my best to get it for you.

Thanks for any help in advance!

If you are unsure just what connectors the card has then go here and scroll down a bit to see the difference between single and dual link.

If this is a new monitor then it should be HDMI capable so you could try a DVI to HDMI cable although the higher quality is marginal.

I dont think that the cable is the problem ... I have the same configuration as you are describing and it works perfectly

Make sure that the card is seeded properly, and you have all the power connectors snug.
